About Henry Quartey
Henry Quartey is a Ghanaian politician and businessman who has represented the Ayawaso Central Constituency in Accra as a Member of Parliament for the New Patriotic Party since 2013. Born on 12 March 1971 in Otublohum, Accra, he grew up in the heart of the capital city that would later define his most notable chapter in public life.
Quartey attended Hams Secondary School in Dansoman, Zams Secondary and Technical School, and Osu Presbyterian Senior High School. He later pursued a postgraduate certificate in Public Administration at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration, equipping himself with governance training alongside a practical background in business.
Before entering politics, Quartey built a career in sales and marketing, rising through the ranks at BBC Trading Company Limited from sales assistant to marketing manager. He went on to serve as Regional Director at Dalebrook Company Limited and founded Ocean Marine Dolphins, remaining a director and shareholder. He also holds a directorship stake in Krafty Hospitality and Services Limited.
Within the NPP, Quartey served as Electoral Area Coordinator and later as Greater Accra Regional Deputy Organiser before entering parliament. He served as Deputy Minister of the Interior from 2017 to 2020, then as Deputy Minister of National Security, before President Akufo-Addo appointed him Greater Accra Regional Minister in 2021.
It is his tenure as Regional Minister that earned Quartey national attention. His signature initiative, the Let's Make Accra Work agenda, was a broad urban renewal drive built around security, sanitation, health, education, and the tackling of public indiscipline. Under the programme, he oversaw the removal of traders occupying pavements and roadsides across major Accra thoroughfares, the demolition of unauthorised structures, and large-scale decongestion exercises. One of the campaign's most visible achievements was the relocation of onion sellers and scrap dealers from Agbogbloshie to Adjen Kotoku, freeing up 18.3 acres of land in one of Accra's most overcrowded districts. The campaign deployed more than 850 personnel daily on sanitation operations, and President Akufo-Addo publicly credited Quartey for the rigour and commitment he brought to the role.
