About Ignatius Baffour-Awuah
Ignatius Baffour-Awuah is an accountant and New Patriotic Party (NPP) politician who served in Akufo-Addo's cabinet as Minister for Employment and Labour Relations and represented Sunyani West in the Bono Region from 2009 to 2025.
Rural banker
Born on 24 August 1966 in Nsoatre, Baffour-Awuah qualified in accounting in 1992 and began his career on EU-funded micro-projects at Atebubu. He then joined Nsoatreman Rural Bank, where he became operations manager.
A Kufuor-era rise
His political career took off under President Kufuor. He was appointed District Chief Executive for Sunyani in 2001, moved up to Deputy Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister in 2005, and served as the substantive Regional Minister from 2006 to 2008.
Labour minister
He won Sunyani West in 2008 and held it through three more elections. In 2017 he joined the cabinet as Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, handling negotiations with organised labour and government job programmes.
In December 2024 he lost the seat to Millicent Yeboah Amankwah of the NDC. He is a Catholic, married with three children.
