Millicent Yeboah Amankwah

Millicent Yeboah Amankwah is a Ghanaian politician of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the Member of Parliament for Sunyani West in the Bono Region. Born on 22 July 1992, she is the youngest member of Ghana's 9th Parliament. She is married to Mahama Ayariga, the MP for Bawku Central, which makes them the first married couple to sit in Ghana's Parliament at the same time.

Early life and education

She comes from Odumase, near Sunyani. She attended St. Mary Preparatory School and Notre Dame Girls Senior High School, then earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in 2016. In 2022 she completed a Graduate Diploma in Law at the University of Law in the United Kingdom.

Politics

In August 2019 she won the NDC's parliamentary primary for Sunyani West with 623 votes, ahead of Abdullai Yah (286) and Justice Samuel Adjei (171). In the December 2024 general election she unseated the NPP incumbent, Ignatius Baffour Awuah, a former Minister for Employment and Labour Relations, taking 26,828 votes (57.64 per cent) to his 19,715 (42.36 per cent). She was sworn in on 7 January 2025.
