About Mohammed Habibu Tijani
Mohammed Habibu Tijani is a teacher, Islamic cleric and New Patriotic Party (NPP) politician who represented Yendi in the Northern Region from 2013 to 2021 and served as a Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs. He was born in Yendi on 16 February 1965.
Teacher and cleric
Tijani attended Ghana Secondary School in Tamale and Bagabaga Training College, then studied religion at the University of Ghana, graduating with first-class honours in 2000. He holds a master's in governance and leadership from GIMPA. He taught at Yendi Senior High School and was an assistant director of education for Central Gonja.
Yendi
He was Municipal Chief Executive for Yendi from 2001 to 2009, then won the parliamentary seat in 2012 and 2016. In 2017 he was appointed Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs. He points to the Yendi College of Health Sciences, maternal and child health centres, dozens of classroom blocks and 13 CHPS compounds among the projects he facilitated. He is married with four children. Farouk Aliu Mahama succeeded him for the NPP in 2021.
