He studied business administration and journalism through Rapid Results College and works as a publisher. His political career goes back to 1969, when he was the Progress Party's candidate for Bawku West. He won Ayawaso Central in 1996 and held it through 2008, the last time by fewer than 900 votes over the NDC's Kwasi Ofei Agyemang. Henry Quartey followed him for the NPP in 2013. He is married with five children. Abdul-Rauf Tongym Tubazu of the NDC holds Ayawaso Central today.
