Simon Akibange Aworigo

Simon Akibange Aworigo is a Ghanaian management professional and politician born on 19 October 1974 in Navrongo in the Upper East Region, who serves as the Member of Parliament for the Navrongo Central constituency. A member of the National Democratic Congress who won the seat in December 2024 as a first-term parliamentarian, he assumed office on 7 January 2025 representing a constituency in the Kassena-Nankana Municipal District of the Upper East Region, the capital town of which, Navrongo, is home to the Navrongo Cathedral, one of West Africa's most significant examples of early missionary architecture, and a community whose history of colonial-era Catholic education has made it one of the educational centres of the Upper East Region.

Education

Aworigo earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Cape Coast in 2000, followed by a Master of Business Administration from the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom in 2014. His Leicester MBA, from one of the UK's established postgraduate business schools with a substantial international student body, gave him management education credentials that complement his earlier UCC scientific degree, equipping him with the strategic planning, organisational behaviour and business finance tools that are increasingly expected of professional administrators in both the public and private sectors.

Parliamentary career

He was selected as the NDC's parliamentary candidate for Navrongo Central in 2023 and won the December 2024 general election, entering Parliament on 7 January 2025. He serves on the Information and Communications Committee and the Public Accounts Committee, two committee assignments of considerable significance: the Public Accounts Committee exercises Parliament's most direct financial accountability function, scrutinising the Auditor General's reports on public expenditure across government institutions; the Information and Communications Committee oversees the governance of Ghana's telecommunications and digital infrastructure, sectors central to the economic modernisation agenda.

Political Legacy
