Stephen Amoanor Kwao

Stephen Amoanor Kwao is an educationist who represented Upper Manya Krobo in the Eastern Region for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for three terms, from 2001 to 2013, and was a minister under President Mills. He was born at Akrusu Saisi on 12 September 1951.

He went to St Martin's Secondary School at Adoagyiri and Mount Mary Training College, and later studied at the University of Education, Winneba. He was headmaster of the Asesewa Roman Catholic Junior Secondary School and rose to deputy director in the Ghana Education Service. He was the NDC's constituency chairman in 1992, won Upper Manya Krobo in 2000 and held it in 2004 and 2008. President Mills made him Minister for Employment and Social Welfare in 2009 and a Minister of State at the Presidency in January 2010. He has also been a national secretary of the NDC. He is married with four children. Bismark Tetteh Nyarko of the NDC holds the seat today.
