About Simon Atingban Akunye
Simon Atingban Akunye is a nurse who represented Pusiga in the Upper East Region for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for two terms, from 2005 to 2013. He was born on 2 February 1954 and comes from Pusiga.
He trained as a registered general nurse in Nigeria and holds an executive master's in governance from GIMPA, and is senior nursing officer at Akunye Memorial Clinic. He won Pusiga in 2004 with 64.8 percent of the vote and in 2008 with 56.1 percent. Laadi Ayii Ayamba took over as the NDC's MP in 2013 and holds the seat today; Akunye ran against her as an independent in 2016 and lost. He is a Catholic, married with eight children.
