Hanna Louisa Bissiw

Dr Hanna Louisa Bissiw is a veterinary doctor and National Democratic Congress (NDC) politician who represented Tano South from 2013 to 2017, served as a Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture and became the party's National Women's Organiser. She was born on 23 July 1972 in Techimantia.

Trained in Cuba

Bissiw attended Kumasi Girls' Secondary School and won a scholarship to study in Cuba, where she qualified as a veterinary doctor in 1999. She worked in veterinary hospitals in Ghana and on Ghana-Cuba cooperation projects.

Politics

She joined the NDC manifesto committee in 2008, became a Deputy Minister for Water Resources, Works and Housing in 2009, and later a Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture. She has faced press criticism over her lifestyle; in 2014, when a newspaper reported that she had received a Toyota Land Cruiser for her birthday, she said it was a gift from her husband. She has two children. Charles Asiedu of the NDC holds Tano South today.
