Nana Ampaw Kwame Addo-Frempong

Nana Ampaw Kwame Addo-Frempong is a Ghanaian sustainability researcher and politician born on 5 November 1983 in Kukurantumi in the Eastern Region, who serves as the Member of Parliament for the Akim Abuakwa North constituency. A member of the New Patriotic Party who won the seat in December 2024 after defeating the incumbent MP in the party's internal primaries, he is one of the more academically specialised new MPs in the Ninth Parliament, holding a postgraduate degree in sustainable resource management from one of Europe's leading technical universities while also pursuing doctoral research.

Education and research background

Addo-Frempong earned a Master of Science degree in Sustainable Resource Management from the Technical University of Munich, a leading German research university whose sustainability science programmes have a global reputation for rigorous interdisciplinary training in the management of natural resources, environmental systems and the interface between ecological sustainability and economic development. Political career

He contested the NPP's parliamentary primaries for Akim Abuakwa North in January 2024 and won by the narrowest of margins: 222 votes against the incumbent MP Gifty Twum-Ampofo who received 202 votes, a twenty-vote primary victory over a sitting parliamentarian that required him to build a constituency-wide delegate coalition to succeed. In the December 2024 general election, he won the Akim Abuakwa North seat and assumed office on 7 January 2025. His constituency in the Akim Abuakwa North District of the Eastern Region is an area where gold mining, cocoa farming and timber resources interact in a landscape where sustainable resource management is not merely an academic subject but a daily constituency reality.
