Habib Iddrisu

Habib Iddrisu is a Ghanaian educator, entrepreneur and politician born on 27 November 1985, who serves as the Member of Parliament for the Tolon constituency in the Northern Region. A member of the New Patriotic Party who first won the seat in 2020 and was re-elected in 2024, he has combined a career in teaching, business and public administration with parliamentary service and a focus on education support for students in his constituency, the core of which he channels through the Soyalana Educational and Endowment Fund he established.

Professional background

Before entering Parliament, Iddrisu built a career that spanned secondary education and public administration. He taught English Language at Tamale Senior High School and subsequently taught Economics at the Tamale Institute of Business Studies, giving him practical engagement with both the humanities and the social sciences at the secondary and post-secondary levels. He also served as the Deputy Executive Secretary of the Ghana Free Zones Authority in charge of the Tema enclave, a public administrative appointment in one of Ghana's key investment promotion and export processing institutions. In 2018, he co-founded and served as Managing Director of Gbewaa Printing Services Limited in Accra, a private sector venture that added commercial and printing industry experience to his public sector career. He holds a Certificate in Law and Governance and a Certificate in Business Administration from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration, earned in 2020.

Parliamentary career

Iddrisu won the Tolon constituency seat in 2020 and was re-elected in the December 2024 general election, serving a second consecutive term in Parliament. During the Eighth Parliament, he rose to serve as the First Deputy Majority Chief Whip, a parliamentary leadership appointment that placed him within the NPP's caucus management team. In the Ninth Parliament, he sits on the NPP's minority bench as a representative of a Northern Region constituency where agricultural livelihoods, youth unemployment and access to quality education are persistent community concerns. His Soyalana Educational and Endowment Fund has supported over two thousand students from the Tolon constituency, a constituency investment that has earned him recognition including the Northern Excellence Awards Rising Politician of the Year in March 2020.
