Henry Kwasi Prempeh

Henry Kwasi Prempeh is a lawyer and constitutional scholar who has been executive director of the Ghana Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) since February 2018, and one of the country's most quoted voices on governance and constitutional reform.

He took a degree in administration at the University of Ghana and an MBA at Baylor University, and graduated from Yale Law School in 1993, where he was notes editor of the Yale Law Journal. He practised as an associate at O'Melveny and Myers and at Cleary Gottlieb Steen and Hamilton in Washington, D.C.

He was on the founding board of CDD-Ghana in 1998 and its director of legal policy and governance from 2001 to 2003. He then taught at Seton Hall University School of Law in New Jersey for twelve years, gaining tenure in 2008, and was a visiting professor at the new GIMPA law school. He was a Reagan-Fascell Democracy Fellow of the National Endowment for Democracy in 2011 and has sat on the Ghana Law Reform Commission. He succeeded Professor E. Gyimah-Boadi at CDD-Ghana, where he has pushed for limits on presidential power and a smaller executive.
