Josephine Nkrumah

Josephine Nkrumah is a lawyer who chaired the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), the constitutional body that teaches Ghanaians about their rights and duties, from 2016.

She holds a degree in law and French from the University of Ghana and was called to the bar in February 1997. She then took an LLM in maritime law at the IMO International Maritime Law Institute in Malta, and spent about twenty years as a legal consultant in the private and public sectors.

President Mahama appointed her deputy chairperson of the NCCE in charge of finance and administration in 2015. The following year, when chairperson Charlotte Osei moved to head the Electoral Commission, Mahama promoted Nkrumah to lead the commission.
