Julius Ansah

Julius Ansah was a Justice of the Supreme Court of Ghana for sixteen years, from 2004 to 2020, and twice acted as Chief Justice. He was born in 1950 and died in September 2024 at the age of 74.

President Kufuor nominated him to the Supreme Court and swore him in in October 2004 with Felix Michael Lartey and Richard Twum Aninakwah. As the most senior justice he acted as Chief Justice when Sophia Akuffo was away in 2018, and again from 20 December 2019 to 7 January 2020, between her retirement and the swearing-in of Kwasi Anin-Yeboah.

In 2018 he wrote to apologise to nine judges whose official homes were to be demolished for the National Cathedral project. Two of them, Mariama Owusu and Avril Lovelace-Johnson, later joined him on the Supreme Court.
