Kwadwo Agyei Agyapong

Kwadwo Agyei Agyapong was a High Court judge and one of the three judges abducted and murdered on 30 June 1982. He was born at Oyoko in the Ashanti Region in November 1926.

He won a scholarship to Mfantsipim School, trained as a teacher at Wesley College and taught at Mfantsipim, where his pupils included the future Vice-President J. W. S. de Graft-Johnson and Chief Justice Isaac Kobina Abban, as well as at Ghana National College, Accra Academy and Accra High School. A Cocobod scholarship took him to King's College London, and he was called to the bar at the Inner Temple in 1960. He practised in Kumasi, co-founding a firm at Adum.

He became a High Court judge in 1977 and chaired the inquiry into the police shooting of a University of Ghana student during a demonstration in 1979, criticising the needless use of live ammunition. In 1980 he was the only High Court judge to sit on the transitional Supreme Court in the Tuffuor case over Chief Justice Apaloo's position. He was abducted during curfew with Justices Cecilia Koranteng-Addow and Fred Poku Sarkodee and Major Sam Acquah and killed. His youngest child was three months old. His son Kwabena Agyei Agyepong later became general secretary of the New Patriotic Party.
