Lauretta Lamptey

Lauretta Vivian Lamptey is a lawyer and investment banker who was Commissioner for Human Rights and Administrative Justice from 2011 to 2015.

She went to Aburi Girls' Secondary School, took her law degree at the University of Ghana in 1980, qualified at the Ghana School of Law in 1982 and earned an LLM in international business law at the London School of Economics in 1987. She headed the capital markets group at Ecobank Ghana and then corporate finance at CAL Merchant Bank, and advised Loita Capital Partners and Letsema Consulting. She advised the government on mining, energy and natural resource deals, sat on the board of GCB, and was a founding board member of the Ghana Stock Exchange.

President Mills swore her in as commissioner in July 2011, a choice welcomed by women's groups. Her tenure ended in controversy after reports about her spending on rented accommodation, and President Mahama removed her in November 2015 following an inquiry set up by the Chief Justice.
