Issifu Omoro Tanko Amadu

Issifu Omoro Tanko Amadu is a Justice of the Supreme Court of Ghana and the first Muslim to sit on the court. He was born at Dodowa on 11 September 1957.

He went to Ghanata Secondary School and Ghana Secondary School in Koforidua, read law at the University of Ghana and attended the Ghana School of Law. He then moved to Nigeria, qualified at the Nigerian Law School and practised in Lagos for nineteen years, with A. C. Mathews and Co. and Alao Aka-Bashorun and Co.

Back in Ghana he founded Amadu and Co. in 1997 and became senior partner of Amadu, Ansah-Obiri and Co. He was appointed to the High Court in 2008 and the Court of Appeal in 2012. President Akufo-Addo nominated him to the Supreme Court in 2020, and he was sworn in on 22 May 2020 alongside Clemence Honyenuga. He has been honoured for inspiring young people in Zongo communities to study law.
