Kwaku Agyeman-Manu

Kwaku Agyeman-Manu is a chartered management accountant who represented Dormaa West and then Dormaa Central in the Bono Region for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) from 2009 to 2025, and was Minister for Health from January 2017 to February 2024. He was born in Dormaa Ahenkro on 6 September 1955.

Finance career

He graduated in economics and statistics from the University of Ghana in 1979 and qualified as a chartered management accountant through the London School of Accountancy. He was deputy chief accountant at MIM Timber and director of finance at Ghamot and at Toyota Ghana. Under President Kufuor he was a Deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Planning and served as a deputy minister in several other ministries, and in 2006 he was acting chief executive of the National Health Insurance Authority.

Parliament and the health ministry

He won Dormaa West in 2008 and the new Dormaa Central seat in 2012, 2016 and 2020, and chaired the Public Accounts Committee while the NPP was in opposition. President Akufo-Addo named him Minister for Health in 2017, a post he held through the COVID-19 pandemic until February 2024. His time in government drew scrutiny: a 2005 letter he signed as deputy finance minister was later relied on by Alfred Woyome in his judgment debt claim against the state, and in 2019 the Public Procurement Authority ruled against his ministry over the tender for anti-snake venom. John Kwame Adu Jack of the NDC holds Dormaa Central today.
