Kweku Addo
Member of Parliament
About Kweku Addo
Reverend Kweku Addo is a Ghanaian clergyman, real estate entrepreneur and politician born on 23 August 1967 in Dansoman in Greater Accra, who serves as the Member of Parliament for the Ablekuma West constituency. A member of the National Democratic Congress whose December 2024 victory ended the NPP's long-standing dominance of the seat, he is the first NDC candidate to win the Ablekuma West parliamentary seat in the history of the constituency and the man who ended the parliamentary career of long-serving MP Ursula Owusu-Ekuful.
Background and career
Addo was born and raised in Dansoman, the same suburban Accra community that encompasses much of the Ablekuma West constituency he now represents. He attended St Anthony's Preparatory School in Lartebiokoshie and Suhum Secondary Technical School, where he studied science and acquired skills in woodwork. He went on to the Kumasi Institute of Tropical Agriculture for two years of agricultural training. He moved to Germany in 1989 and spent three years there before relocating to the United States, where he acquired skills in several professional areas through training institutions including Travelers and City Corps Bank, the Dale Carnegie Institute for public speaking and communications, and the Long and Foster Real Estate Training Institute. On returning to Ghana, he established Igloo Real Estate Limited, a general practice real estate brokerage, and served as the Director of Oddarene Christian School, a basic school that combined his entrepreneurial and educational community roles. He is also an ordained minister, a dimension of his public identity that earned him the title Reverend.
2024 election victory
He contested the Ablekuma West constituency in December 2024 and won with 31,866 votes, defeating the incumbent NPP MP and former Minister for Communications and Digitalisation Ursula Owusu-Ekuful who received 26,575 votes. His majority of just over 5,000 votes in a constituency the NDC had never previously won gave him a place in the history of Ablekuma West as the seat's first NDC representative. He assumed office on 7 January 2025.
Political Legacy
Reverend Kweku Addo's victory in Ablekuma West is one of the defining constituency upsets of the 2024 election cycle, ending a parliamentary career of one of the NPP's most visible serving MPs and opening a new chapter for a constituency that had existed exclusively in the NPP column for its entire parliamentary history.
