Lawrence Agyinsam

Lawrence Agyinsam is a Ghanaian financial executive and politician who serves as the Member of Parliament for the Hemang-Lower Denkyira constituency in the Central Region. A member of the New Patriotic Party who won the seat in December 2024 as a first-term parliamentarian, he assumed office on 7 January 2025 representing a constituency in the Lower Denkyira West District, a Central Region area in the gold and cocoa belt of southern Ghana, bringing to Parliament an executive career as the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Export-Import Bank.

Professional background

Agyinsam served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Export-Import Bank, known as Ghana EXIM Bank, the state financial institution established to provide trade finance, export credit guarantees and investment support for Ghanaian businesses engaged in international trade. As CEO of Ghana EXIM Bank, he led an institution whose mandate is to facilitate export growth, support the competitiveness of Ghanaian products in international markets and provide the financial instruments needed to bridge the trade finance gap that limits the export potential of Ghanaian small and medium enterprises. His leadership of a financial institution with a national development mandate gave him executive experience in the intersection of state finance, international trade policy and business development support.

2024 election and parliamentary career

He contested the NPP's parliamentary primaries for Hemang-Lower Denkyira and won, securing the party's nomination. In the December 2024 general election, he won the constituency with 17,228 votes, defeating the NDC's Seth Agyapong-Mensah who received 9,527 votes. His majority of over 7,000 votes in a constituency where the NPP retained its hold despite losing the national election underlines the individual strength he brought to the campaign. He assumed office on 7 January 2025 as part of the NPP's minority bench in the Ninth Parliament.
