Selasee

Selasee's song "Run" ended up on the soundtrack of FIFA 06, the EA Sports football game, and in 2006 won first prize in the World Music category of the International Songwriting Competition.

Legon to Colorado

He started out writing and singing gospel songs with a church group as a teenager. In 1999 he completed a three-year music course at the University of Ghana's School of Performing Arts and moved to the United States the same year. After spells in Utah and southern California, where he took odd jobs and played coffee houses, he settled in Boulder, Colorado, and formed Selasee and the Fafa Family, a seven-piece band.

Songs and prizes

His style draws on reggae and world music, and he names Bob Marley and Nat King Cole as influences. "Run" also came second in the competition's People's Choice vote. "Agba Yei" got an honourable mention at the Billboard World Songwriting Contest and won Best World Fusion Song at the 8th Independent Music Awards in 2009, and "Saidaway" was nominated at the 10th edition in 2011. He also reached the final of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest in its world music category. His second album, African Gate, came out in 2010; an early demo from it was licensed to EA Sports for Cricket 07.
