Stella Aba Seal
Gospel Singer
About Stella Aba Seal
Stella Aba Seal is a Ghanaian gospel singer. Her second album, Daadaa Nyinaa, made her one of the country's leading gospel musicians in the early 1990s.
Early life and education
She was born to Theophilus Seal, of British and Cameroonian parentage, and Madam Violet Addo from Anum Boso in the Eastern Region. She attended Accra New Town 4 School and Kotobabi 2 Middle School, took her GCE O levels at City Secondary and Business College in 1981, and trained as a secretary at Accra Polytechnic. She also earned IATA certification in passenger handling, sales and reservations from the Ghana Airways Training School, and trained in dressmaking at Kalbs School of Fashion.
Music
Her debut album, You Are In My Heart, drew little attention, but Daadaa Nyinaa brought her national recognition in the early 1990s. She has called for stronger respect for copyright, urging musicians to get permission before recording or performing other artists' songs. In 2026 she spoke publicly about workplace sexual harassment, saying she had lost two jobs after rejecting advances from employers, and urged women to report such behaviour.
Personal life
She was previously known by her married name, Stella Dugan, and has three children with her former husband. She returned to her maiden name after their divorce.
