Takum

Takum (born Fred Baaffour Asare, 26 June 1992) is a Ghanaian singer and songwriter. He blends Afrobeats and Afropop with highlife and hiplife, and records with Go Getters Records. His releases include the album Songs of Reality, Vol. 1 (2023) and the EPs The 10th Chapter (2024) and Songs of Reality II (2025).

Early life

Takum was born in Nyankumasi Ahenkro, in the Assin South District of the Central Region. He attended D/C Experimental Primary and Junior High School and then Fantsi-Nyankumasi Ahenkro Senior High School. At senior high he joined a music group and began working with a beatmaker called Zontii. The group split up after school, but he carried on alone and later moved to Accra to build his career.

Career

His single Dab3n became a hit across the Central Region and brought him his first media attention; he returned to it in 2021 with Daben II. Singles such as Agege (2019), Madem, Money Minded and Obra (2020) followed, along with Talk My Tin featuring Kwame Yogot.

In 2022 he released Broke Life with Fameye and Vybz Shella. His first album, Songs of Reality, Vol. 1, arrived in December 2023, and he was nominated in the Next Rated category of the 2024 3Music Awards. The 10th Chapter EP followed in October 2024 and Songs of Reality II in November 2025. In 2025 he also put out a remix of Don't Fall In Love featuring Shatta Wale.

His 2026 releases include Geng Geng with Kwaku Tugabwoy and On God.
