Sonnie Badu

Sonnie Badu is a Ghanaian gospel singer, songwriter and pastor whose worship songs, including Baba, Imela and Covenant Keeping God, are sung in churches across Africa and its diaspora. He is the founder and senior pastor of RockHill Church in Atlanta, Georgia, which he leads with his wife, Annie.

Early life

Badu was born in Accra and grew up in a Christian home where his father was both a pastor and a musician. He was playing drums in church by the age of five and singing soon after. He later lived and ministered in the United Kingdom for many years before moving to the United States.

Music

His debut album was Lost in His Glory. The breakthrough came with Worshipper's Cry in 2007, which included Baba, Covenant Keeping God and Wonder God. Imela followed in 2010, and Still You Reign in 2014.

RockHill Church

Badu founded RockHill Church in Atlanta in 2018 and marked its eighth anniversary with celebrations on 1 to 3 March 2026. He holds several theology and music qualifications, including doctorates in divinity and in musicology, and has been appointed a professor and dean of music at Trinity International University of Ambassadors. His other honours include keys to Brooklyn, New York, and Brentwood, Maryland, and honorary citizenship of Georgia.

Public comments

In January 2025, as John Mahama began his second term, Badu said that the President would one day be ordained as a pastor.

Family

He and Annie Badu have four children: Shadine, Imani, Sonnie and Ayanna.
