Yaw Frimpong Addo

Yaw Frimpong-Addo is a Ghanaian social development professional, administrator and politician born on 2 September 1962 in Manso Gyeduako in the Ashanti Region, who serves as the Member of Parliament for the Manso Adubia constituency and as Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture in the government of President John Mahama. A member of the New Patriotic Party who has represented Manso Adubia since the constituency's creation in 2012, he is the only MP the constituency has ever had, having been elected in every general election from 2012 through 2024.

Education

Frimpong-Addo holds a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a Diploma in Education from the University of Cape Coast, obtained in 1990. He later completed an Executive Masters in Conflict, Peace and Security from the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre in Accra in 2016, a postgraduate programme that trains senior professionals and practitioners in the theory and practice of conflict resolution, peacekeeping operations, mediation and transitional justice. His KAIPTC qualification reflects an interest in the security and peacebuilding dimensions of governance that complements his social science undergraduate training.

Professional career

His professional career spanned several civil society, private sector and development organisation roles. He worked as Manager of the Corporate Social Responsibility Department at the Private Enterprise Foundation, Ghana's private sector advocacy institution. He served as a Social and Environment Impact Expert at both Comptran Engineering and Transtel Consult, technical consulting firms where his sociology and education background applied to the social and environmental dimensions of infrastructure and telecommunications development projects. He also worked as a Programme Liaison Officer at the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs, an American democracy-support organisation that works globally on elections, governance and civic participation.

Parliamentary career and ministerial appointment

He was first elected Member of Parliament for the newly created Manso Adubia constituency in December 2012 and has retained the seat at every subsequent election. He serves on the Committee on Poverty Reduction Strategy and the Environment, Science and Technology Committee. President Mahama appointed him Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture in 2025, a portfolio that aligns his social development professional background with the agricultural policy mandate of a constituency in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region, a gold-mining and cocoa-farming area.
