Yusif Sulemana

Dr Yusif Sulemana is a Ghanaian teacher, development finance specialist, banker and politician born on 29 July 1972 who serves as the Member of Parliament for the Bole-Bamboi constituency in the Savannah Region and as Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources in the government of President John Mahama. A member of the National Democratic Congress who has represented the constituency through multiple terms and won a commanding majority in December 2024, he is one of the NDC's most academically credentialled MPs from the Savannah Region, having recently completed a doctoral degree in business administration.

Education

Sulemana trained as a teacher at Tamale Training College, a foundational qualification that began his career in education. He subsequently earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Administration specialising in Banking and Finance from the University of Ghana, positioning him at the intersection of public administration and financial services. He obtained a Master of Philosophy in Development Finance from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration, a research-based postgraduate degree that gave him a rigorous academic framework for the analysis of financing mechanisms in development contexts. He also completed an Executive MBA in Project Management. In 2026, he earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Business Administration from NiBS University, completing a doctoral formation that makes him one of the few sitting Ghanaian MPs to hold a PhD in business administration.

Parliamentary career and ministerial appointment

Sulemana has represented the Bole-Bamboi constituency in the Savannah Region across multiple parliamentary terms. In December 2024, he won re-election with 26,599 votes representing 78.17 per cent of valid ballots, one of the largest individual majorities from a Savannah Region constituency in that election. He was among the 34 MPs who achieved perfect attendance in Parliament's first session, a disciplinary distinction reflecting his commitment to his parliamentary mandate. President Mahama appointed him Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources in 2025, a portfolio with direct relevance to the mineral resources governance, land tenure policy and natural resource conservation issues that affect the Savannah Region's communities. He has provided more than GH¢400,000 in personal constituency education support during his parliamentary tenure.
