Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings

Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings was sworn in as Minister for Environment, Science and Technology on 29 August 2026. She has been NDC MP for Klottey Korle since 2017 and is the eldest daughter of former President Jerry Rawlings and Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings.

Doctor and peacebuilder

She was born in Accra on 1 June 1978 and traces her roots to Dzelukope in the Volta Region. She attended North Ridge Lyceum, Achimota School and Wesley Girls' High School, finishing in 1996, and trained in medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, later working as a GP. She holds an Executive MA in Conflict, Peace and Security from KAIPTC, along with certificates in defence and crisis management and counter-terrorism from the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College and in women, peace and security from the LSE.

Public work

After the June 2015 GOIL fire and flood disaster in Accra she led relief efforts, and she built a bridge for the flood-prone Osu Anorhor community. She has backed campaigns for women's and children's rights and sanitation.

Minister

President Mahama nominated her on 7 August 2026 in his first reshuffle, to a ministry run in a caretaker capacity since Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed died in the August 2025 helicopter crash. At her vetting she put fighting illegal mining, protecting the environment and building research capacity at the top of her list, and she formally took over on 3 September 2026.
