Mansa Nettey

Mansa Nettey is a Ghanaian banker who was Chief Executive of Standard Chartered Bank Ghana from March 2017 until her retirement in June 2026, the first woman to lead the bank in more than a century in the country. She also served as president of the Ghana Association of Banks.

From pharmacy to banking

Nettey attended Achimota School and trained as a pharmacist at KNUST, graduating in 1995. She then took an MBA at Manchester Business School in 1998 and joined Standard Chartered as a relationship manager.

Standard Chartered

She built her career on the markets side of the bank, becoming head of foreign exchange sales for Ghana and West Africa and then head of financial markets for Ghana. On 1 March 2017 she became Chief Executive of Standard Chartered Bank Ghana, the first woman in the post. She sat on the Ghana board as an executive director and on the board of Standard Chartered Bank Nigeria as a non-executive director.

Her years in charge spanned the Bank of Ghana's clean-up of the banking sector in 2017 to 2019, the pandemic and the 2022 domestic debt exchange. Standard Chartered announced in May 2026 that she would retire after more than 25 years with the group, and Xorse Godzi, head of Ghana corporates, succeeded her on 11 June 2026.

Recognition and health advocacy

In 2019 she was named among the top 100 women CEOs in Africa, and in 2024 the Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana made her its Marketing Woman of the Year. Avance Media included her in its 2026 Top 100 Ghana's Women Board Directors. After her own treatment for leukaemia she founded the Leukemia Project Foundation in Ghana. She is married with a daughter.
