Prince Hamid Armah

Dr Prince Hamid Armah is a mathematics educator who led Ghana's curriculum reform as head of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NaCCA) and represented Kwesimintsim in the Western Region for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) from 2021 to 2025. He was born in Kwesimintsim on 6 October 1981.

Maths education

Armah attended St John's School in Sekondi and earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in mathematics education at the University of Education, Winneba. He completed a PhD in mathematics education, specialising in curriculum and education policy, at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland, with further training in quantitative methods at Edinburgh, Manchester and Nottingham.

Rewriting the curriculum

In January 2019 he became executive secretary of NaCCA, and after the Education Regulatory Bodies Act was passed that year he was named its first acting Director-General. He oversaw the rollout of the new standards-based curriculum for basic schools.

Parliament

In June 2020 he beat the sitting MP, Joe Mensah, in the NPP primary and won the seat that December. He was vice-chair of the Education Committee and was later nominated as a Deputy Minister for Works and Housing. Philip Fiifi Buckman of the National Democratic Congress won Kwesimintsim in 2024.
