Ras Mubarak

Ras Mubarak is a journalist, reggae broadcaster and farmer who represented Kumbungu in the Northern Region for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) from 2017 to 2021, after heading the National Youth Authority. He was born in Tamale on 3 June 1979 and comes from Satani, where his great-grandfather was paramount chief.

Ras Mubarak made his name as a reggae presenter on Ghana Broadcasting Corporation radio and television. He studied journalism at the London School of Journalism, took a postgraduate diploma in international development at the University of Oslo, and a business certificate from Nobel International Business School.

Politics

He first ran for Parliament in Ablekuma North in 2012 and lost. From 2013 to 2016 he was chief executive of the National Youth Authority. In 2016 he won Kumbungu with 55 percent of the vote, but in 2019 he lost the NDC primary to Dr Hamza Adam, who holds the seat today.
