Clemence Jackson Honyenuga

Clemence Jackson Honyenuga is a retired Justice of the Supreme Court of Ghana and the paramount chief of the Nyagbo Traditional Area. He was born at Nyagbo-Gagbefe in the Volta Region on 4 September 1952.

He went to Kadjebi Secondary School and Kpando Secondary School, read law and political science at the University of Ghana and was called to the bar in 1981. After a year as an assistant state attorney in Ho he practised at Amewu Chambers in the town for twenty years and held several posts in the Volta branch of the Ghana Bar Association. He then served as judge advocate of the Ghana Navy and as a High Court judge, joining the Court of Appeal in 2008. He was president of the Court of Appeal in Cape Coast from 2012 to 2017 and was named a judge for anti-corruption cases in 2013.

His nomination to the Supreme Court in 2020 was dogged by a speech he read at a durbar for President Akufo-Addo, which suggested Ghanaians might give the president another term. At his vetting he said he had read it on behalf of the chiefs of Afadjato and apologised. Parliament approved him and he was sworn in on 22 May 2020. He retired on his seventieth birthday in September 2022. He has been a permanent member of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs since 2012.
