Sammy Gyamfi

Samuel Gyamfi, known as Sammy Gyamfi, is a Ghanaian lawyer and politician of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He was the party's National Communications Officer from 2018 and in 2025 became chief executive of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), the state body that buys and exports gold from small-scale miners.

Early life and education

He was born on 28 March 1989 in Sunyani and comes from Wamfie in the Bono Region. He attended St. James Seminary Senior High School and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), where he earned a BSc in environmental science and a law degree and was active in student leadership. He completed his professional training at the Ghana School of Law and was called to the bar on 5 October 2018.

NDC communications

In 2018 NDC delegates elected him National Communications Officer with 6,225 of about 9,000 votes cast, and he was re-elected in 2022. For six years he was one of the party's most visible voices against the Akufo-Addo government on radio, television and social media. In July 2023 he accused the NPP of trying to bribe voters in the Assin North by-election.

GoldBod

On 16 January 2025 President John Dramani Mahama appointed him acting managing director of the Precious Minerals Marketing Company, with the task of turning it into a new Ghana Gold Board. Parliament passed the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140), and he became the board's chief executive. GoldBod's gold exports passed $5 billion in the first half of 2025, more than the $4.6 billion for the whole of 2024, and by the end of the year it had beaten its target of 100 tonnes of small-scale gold, earning more than $10 billion. For the first time, gold exports from small-scale miners overtook those of the large mining companies.

In May 2025 a video showed him giving $800 in cash to the evangelist Nana Agradaa. He apologised publicly, calling it "an unfortunate act of indiscretion".

Personal life

He is a Seventh-day Adventist and married in a private ceremony in December 2022.
