Sammy Gyamfi

Sammy Gyamfi, born Samuel Gyamfi, is a Ghanaian politician, lawyer, and party official who served as the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress for several years before being appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation following the NDC's return to government in January 2025. His transition from political communications to leading one of Ghana's most strategically important state enterprises marked a significant shift in his public career.

A lawyer by training, Gyamfi built a high public profile through his role as the NDC's lead spokesperson during the NPP's years in government. His sharp, frequent media appearances and combative communications style made him one of the most recognisable faces of NDC political communications in Ghana. He became closely associated with the party's critique of the Akufo-Addo administration, appearing regularly in television debates, press conferences, and social media platforms to articulate the NDC's positions.

As NDC Communications Officer, he managed press releases, responded to government actions, and drove the party's messaging on major policy and governance controversies. His legal background informed his approach to political communication, which combined rhetorical force with references to constitutional provisions and administrative law. Following the NDC's decisive victory in the December 2024 elections, President Mahama appointed Gyamfi as CEO of GNPC, Ghana's state oil company. The appointment placed him in charge of one of Ghana's most strategically and commercially important enterprises, overseeing its upstream petroleum activities, investments in the oil industry, and role in managing Ghana's petroleum revenues and assets. His appointment signalled the NDC's willingness to reward loyal political service with senior state enterprise leadership.
