Sampson Ahi
Member of Parliament
About Sampson Ahi
Sampson Ahi is a Ghanaian governance professional, politician and development administrator born on 14 September 1976 who serves as the Member of Parliament for the Bodi constituency in the Western North Region and as Deputy Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry in the government of President John Dramani Mahama. A member of the National Democratic Congress and the longest-serving and only ever MP for the Bodi constituency since its creation in 2012, he has built a parliamentary career that began in the adjoining Juabeso constituency in 2005 and has continued uninterrupted for two decades.
Education
Ahi holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Ghana, Legon, and an Executive Masters in Governance and Leadership from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration. His GIMPA EMGL, a programme designed for public sector executives and senior professionals, aligned his academic formation directly with the demands of parliamentary and governmental service, giving him a structured framework for the governance, leadership and public administration challenges that elected representatives face in constituency management and legislative work.
Parliamentary career
He was first elected Member of Parliament for the Juabeso constituency in the Central Western Region in December 2004, assuming office in January 2005. When the Electoral Commission created the new Bodi constituency in 2012 by carving it out of the Juabeso area, Ahi moved to contest the new seat and has been its sole parliamentary representative since January 2013, making him the only MP in Bodi's history to date. He has retained the constituency through successive elections, including December 2024, maintaining the NDC's hold on a constituency in the Western North Region's forested interior where cocoa farming, rubber cultivation and small-scale gold mining support the livelihoods of communities whose development needs have been consistently championed by a long-serving local representative.
Ministerial appointment
President Mahama appointed him as Deputy Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry in 2025, a portfolio that connects his parliamentary advocacy for the agricultural economy of a Western North Region constituency with national policy on trade competitiveness, agro-processing and the industrial development of Ghana's natural resource sectors.
Political Legacy
Sampson Ahi's twenty-year parliamentary career across Juabeso and Bodi, his GIMPA governance qualification and his Deputy Ministerial appointment in trade and agribusiness give him a cumulative public service record that few MPs of his generation in the Western North Region can match.
