George Kingsley Koomson

George Kingsley Koomson is a Justice of the Supreme Court of Ghana, sworn in on 5 April 2023. He was born at Agona Nyakrom in the Central Region in May 1962.

He went to Winneba Secondary School and St Augustine's College. The universities were shut when he finished sixth form in 1983, so he taught at a village school near Assin Fosu until they reopened, then read law at the University of Ghana and was called to the bar in 1989. He worked at the Attorney-General's department in Cape Coast and in its drafting division, then joined Michel's Barton and Partners in private practice.

He became a circuit judge in 2000, sitting at Akim Swedru and Takoradi, and a High Court judge in 2008, serving in Wa, Kumasi and from 2013 the Commercial Court in Accra. He joined the Court of Appeal in 2020. He chaired the committee that investigated the 2021 Ejura killings, and families of the victims petitioned Parliament against his nomination to the Supreme Court. The NDC Minority also argued he had spent too little time on the Court of Appeal. He was approved by secret ballot, 139 votes to 133, in March 2023.
