About Philip Atta Basoah
Philip Atta Basoah (18 November 1969 – 27 March 2023) was a teacher and former district chief executive who represented Kumawu in the Ashanti Region for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) from 2017 until his death.
Education and local government
Basoah studied at the University of Cape Coast, graduating in 2000, and later earned a master's degree from the Paris Graduate School of Management. He taught at Agogo Senior High School, coordinated projects for the Ghana Education Service in the Ashanti Region, and served as District Chief Executive for Sekyere East from 2005 to 2009.
Parliament
He won Kumawu in 2016 with 78 percent of the vote and held it in 2020 against a strong independent challenge. In the Eighth Parliament he chaired the Employment, Social Welfare and State Enterprises Committee.
Death
He died on 27 March 2023, aged 53. In the by-election that followed, Ernest Yaw Anim kept Kumawu for the NPP.
