About Kingsley Nyarko
Professor Kingsley Nyarko is a Ghanaian educational psychologist, academic administrator and politician born on 10 June 1973 in Obo Kwahu in the Eastern Region, who serves as the Member of Parliament for the Kwadaso constituency in the Ashanti Region. A member of the New Patriotic Party who first won the Kwadaso seat in 2020 and has retained it since, he served as Deputy Minister for Education in charge of Technical and Vocational Education and Training during the Akufo-Addo administration and is one of the more academically distinguished members of the Ninth Parliament's NPP bench.
Education and academic career
Nyarko pursued a sustained academic career in educational psychology across more than a decade of study. He earned a Bachelor of Education in Psychology from the University of Ghana in 2000, establishing his foundation in the science of learning and human development. He then obtained a Master of Arts in Educational Psychology and Differential Psychology in 2005, specialising in the measurement of individual differences in cognitive ability, learning and educational performance. He completed his doctoral studies with a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Psychology in 2008, a research doctorate that positioned him within the academic community of applied psychology and educational science. He went on to build a career as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Ghana, where his research and teaching engaged with the psychological dimensions of educational practice. He served as headmaster of Mile 18 Junior High School and as a tutor at Ejisuman Senior High School at earlier stages of his career. He also held the position of Executive Secretary of the National Accreditation Board, the regulatory body responsible for the licensing and quality assurance of Ghana's tertiary educational institutions.
Parliamentary career
He was first elected Member of Parliament for Kwadaso in December 2020, winning with 61,772 votes representing 87.51 per cent of valid votes, one of the dominant individual results in that election cycle. He retained the seat in December 2024 with 45,858 votes. During the Eighth Parliament, he served as Deputy Minister for Education in charge of Technical and Vocational Education and Training, a portfolio directly aligned with his academic expertise in educational systems and institutional quality.
Political Legacy
Professor Kingsley Nyarko's doctoral-level expertise in educational psychology, his leadership of the National Accreditation Board and his TVET ministerial portfolio give his parliamentary career an unusual coherence between academic specialisation and policy responsibility. His dominant Kwadaso majorities reflect one of the strongest individual NPP holds in the Greater Kumasi area.
