Kofi Arko Nokoe

Kofi Arko Nokoe is a Ghanaian politician born on 13 May 1983 in Axim in the Western Region, who serves as the Member of Parliament for the Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira constituency. A member of the National Democratic Congress who first won the seat in 2020 and retained it in 2024, he made history by ending the constituency's longstanding pattern of one-term parliamentary representation, becoming the first sitting MP to retain the Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira seat since 2008, when a cycle of alternating party wins had defined the constituency's electoral character.

Parliamentary career

He contested the Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira constituency in December 2020 and won the seat for the NDC, taking office in January 2021. The constituency's modern electoral history had been marked by a pattern in which no sitting MP had retained the seat since 2008, meaning that the NPP and NDC had alternated the seat across successive election cycles without any individual achieving back-to-back wins. In December 2024, he broke this cycle, winning re-election with 16,419 votes representing 53.46 per cent of valid ballots cast, against the NPP's Catherine Afeku who received 14,050 votes representing 45.75 per cent. His majority of just over 2,000 votes in a constituency where the NDC and NPP are closely matched was sufficient to make him the first MP in sixteen years to retain the Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira seat. In Parliament, he serves on the Special Budget Committee and the Foreign Affairs Committee, assignments that span fiscal scrutiny and international relations oversight.

Evalue-Ajomoro-Gwira is a constituency in the Ahanta West District of the Western Region, a coastal area near Axim where fishing, cocoa farming and the proximity to the Western Region's oil and gas offshore activities shape the economic character of the communities. The constituency includes the Gwira communities and parts of the Ahanta traditional area, and Nokoe's roots in Axim give him personal familiarity with the coastal and inland communities he represents.
