About Kofi Asare
Dr Kofi Asare was a public health doctor who represented Akwatia in the Eastern Region for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) from 2009 to 2013. He was born at Akyem Wenchi on 12 December 1954.
He took a master's in public health at the University of London in 1993 and served as Central Regional Director of the Ghana Health Service in Cape Coast. He won Akwatia in 2008 with 17,900 votes to 15,860 for Baba Jamal of the NDC. In 2012 he lost the NPP primary to Mercy Adu-Gyamfi, and Baba Jamal took the seat. He died in a road accident on the Nkawkaw-Accra highway on 21 February 2017, aged 62. He was a Presbyterian, married with four children.
