Kwabena Donkor

Dr Kwabena Donkor is an energy economist who represented Pru East, in today's Bono East Region, for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for three terms, from 2013 to 2025, and was Ghana's first Minister for Power. He was born at Lonto near Yeji on 5 February 1958.

He holds a master's and PhD from the University of Bristol and an MBA from Lancaster University. He was a founding member of the Petroleum Commission and served as its chief executive, and was Deputy Minister of Information from 2013 to 2014. In 2014 President Mahama made him Minister for Power, charged with ending the power cuts known as dumsor; he had promised to resign if they were not over by the end of 2015, and he left the post. He won Pru East in 2016 with 56.2 percent and held it in 2020, serving as ranking member of the Employment, Social Welfare and State Enterprises Committee. He is married with four children. Emmanuel Kwaku Boam of the NDC holds Pru East today.
