About Kwaku Afriyie

Dr Kwaku Afriyie is a medical doctor, farmer and New Patriotic Party (NPP) politician who represented Sefwi-Wiawso in the Western North Region from 2017 to 2025. He was Western Regional Minister from 2017 to 2018. He was born in Sefwi Wiawso on 7 July 1954.

Doctor

Afriyie qualified in medicine at the University of Ghana Medical School and took a Master of Public Health at Tulane University in New Orleans. He is a fellow of the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons. He worked at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and Effia Nkwanta Hospital between 1982 and 1994 and later became health service director at Bibiani Government Hospital.

Farmer and cocoa adviser

For more than 25 years he ran Afriyie Farms as managing director. Under President Kufuor he sat on the Cabinet sub-committee on cocoa affairs from 2001 to 2005.

Minister and MP

Akufo-Addo appointed him Western Regional Minister in January 2017, and Parliament approved him that February. He won Sefwi-Wiawso in 2016 and 2020. In 2024 the NDC's Kofi Benteh Afful took the seat.
