About Maxwell Kofi Jumah
Maxwell Kofi Jumah is a businessman and former Mayor of Kumasi who represented Asokwa in the Ashanti Region for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for two terms, from 2005 to 2013. He was born at Amakom on 26 June 1950.
He went to Prempeh College and earned an MBA in finance and international marketing from Rutgers University in 1983. President Kufuor appointed him Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive in May 2001. He won Asokwa in 2004 with 77 percent of the vote and in 2008, and was Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development from 2007 to 2009. Under President Akufo-Addo he was managing director of GIHOC Distilleries, where he was named CEO of the Year at the 2019 Ghana Manufacturers Awards; that appointment ended in January 2025. In April 2026 he was arrested by the Economic and Organised Crime Office in an investigation into alleged financial irregularities and released on bail. Patricia Appiagyei of the NPP holds Asokwa today.
