About Abdul-Aziz Ayaba Musah
Abdul-Aziz Ayaba Musah made history in 2020 by winning Mion in the Northern Region for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the first time the party had taken the seat in 28 years. He served one term, from 2021 to 2025, ending it as Deputy Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development. He was born on 1 January 1986 and comes from Sang.
Education and early career
He attended Yendi Senior High School and studied economics and entrepreneurship at the University for Development Studies, graduating in 2010. He later earned a postgraduate certificate in public administration from GIMPA. He worked at the National Health Insurance Authority and the Local Government Service and is general manager of Alhaj Musah Enterprise.
Breaking through in Mion
His 2020 win, with about 59 percent of the vote, ended the NDC's long hold on the constituency. In 2021 he was sworn in as a member of the ECOWAS Parliament in Freetown, and in March 2023 he received the People's MP of the Year award at the Northern Excellence Awards. President Akufo-Addo nominated him as deputy fisheries minister in February 2024, and he was sworn in that May.
In the 2024 election he lost the seat to Misbahu Mahama Adams of the NDC.
