About Andrew Egyapa Mercer
Andrew Egyapa Mercer is a corporate lawyer who represented Sekondi in the Western Region for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for two terms, from 2017 to 2025. He was born in Sekondi on 25 May 1973, the son of the lawyer and diplomat James Mercer.
He attended Chapel Hill Preparatory School in Takoradi and Adisadel College, studied humanities and law at the University of Ghana and was called to the bar. He was head of legal at First Atlantic Bank before founding Mercer and Company, a corporate and investment law firm, in 2013. He lost the 2011 primary to the long-serving MP Papa Owusu-Ankomah, then succeeded him unopposed as candidate and won Sekondi in 2016 with 59.5 percent of the vote. Blay Nyameke Armah of the NDC holds Sekondi today.
