About Ato Panford
Dr Ato Panford is an engineer and industrialist who represented Shama in the Western Region for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) from 2017 to 2021. He was born on 28 August 1962.
Engineer and business leader
Panford studied engineering and took an MBA at the University of Southampton. He started out as an industrial plant and marine engineer and built his own manufacturing, agro-processing and farming businesses, specialising in polystyrene production and food processing. He led the Western and Central branches of the Association of Ghana Industries and became its vice-president for small and medium enterprises, helping to develop the Ghana Business Code.
After Parliament
In the 2020 NPP primary he lost the Shama ticket to Samuel Erickson Abakah, who went on to win the seat. In October 2021 he became a senior adviser at the national AfCFTA coordinating office, assessing Ghanaian exporters' readiness to trade under the African Continental Free Trade Area. Emelia Arthur of the NDC holds Shama today.
