Papa Owusu-Ankomah

Papa Owusu-Ankomah is a lawyer and diplomat who represented Sekondi in the Western Region for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for twenty years, from 1997 to 2017, served as Attorney-General from 2003 to 2005, and was Ghana's High Commissioner to the United Kingdom. He was born in Sekondi-Takoradi on 27 April 1958.

Law and party

He went to Mfantsipim School, studied law at the University of Ghana and was called to the bar in 1981, later becoming managing partner of Owusu-Ankomah, Amanquah and Co. He was a founding member of the NPP's Western Regional branch and of the Danquah-Busia Club, chaired the party's communications committee from 2001 to 2003, and has sat on its National Executive and National Council.

Parliament and government

He won Sekondi in 1996 and held it for five terms. President Kufuor made him Attorney-General and Minister of Justice from 2003 to 2005. He stood down in 2016, when Andrew Egyapa Mercer succeeded him. In June 2017 President Akufo-Addo appointed him High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and Ireland, and he was reappointed in 2021. Blay Nyameke Armah of the NDC holds Sekondi today.
