Paul Apreku Twum Barimah

Paul Apreku Twum-Barimah is a lawyer and communications specialist who represented Dormaa East in the Bono Region for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) from 2021 to 2025. Civil society groups named him the best first-term MP of 2022. He comes from Kobedia-Asupra.

Radio, diplomacy and oil

Twum-Barimah's career has moved between media and energy. He ran events at Radio Universe, managed RGU radio and worked in communications at the British High Commission. He then went into the oil and gas industry, with roles in corporate affairs at Zen Petroleum and in government relations at ENI Ghana, and did development communication work for SADA. His qualifications include a degree in sociology and information studies, an MSc in communications and public affairs, an LLB and a certificate in oil and gas management.

Best first-term MP

He won Dormaa East in 2020 and quickly built a reputation for research-heavy contributions. In 2022 Watch Parliament and a coalition of civil society groups recognised him as the year's best first-term MP. He served on the Special Budget, Foreign Affairs and Mines and Energy committees.

Rachel Amma Owusuah, whom he beat in 2020, won the seat for the NDC in 2024.
