Barbara Ackah-Yensu

Barbara Frances Ackah-Yensu is a Justice of the Supreme Court of Ghana, sworn in on 28 December 2022, and was one of the founding judges of Ghana's Commercial Court. She was born in Cape Coast on 2 February 1955.

She went to Wesley Girls' High School, took a degree in psychology and sociology at the University of Ghana in 1977, and then qualified in law, being called to the bar in 1981. For more than twenty years she worked in private and corporate practice, with Lynes Quarshie-Idun and Co., the National Investment Bank, the Non-Performing Assets Recovery Trust and the gold miners Ashanti Goldfields and Ghanaian Australian Goldfields, and on a World Bank asset recovery project in Uganda.

She became a High Court judge in September 2003 and moved to the new Commercial Court in 2005, serving as its president from 2010 until she joined the Court of Appeal in 2012. She also lectured in alternative dispute resolution at the Ghana School of Law and sat on the University of Ghana Council. Parliament approved her nomination to the Supreme Court unanimously in December 2022. She is a Roman Catholic, married with five children.
