Anselmus Kludze

Anselmus Kodzo Paaku Kludze was a legal scholar and author who sat on the Supreme Court of Ghana in 2003 and 2004 and chaired the Law Reform Commission. He came from Gbi-Kpeme near Hohoe, was born in 1934 and died on 5 October 2013.

His father died while he was at Adisadel College on a government scholarship, and an uncle paid for him to finish. He graduated from the University of Ghana in 1963, qualified as a barrister in 1965 and took a doctorate in the United Kingdom in 1969, adding a higher doctorate in law (LLD) from the University of London in 2002.

He taught at the University of Ghana and the Ghana School of Law, was professor and dean of law at the University of Calabar in Nigeria, and became an emeritus professor at Rutgers University in New Jersey. His book Ewe Law of Property (1973) is a study of customary land law. President Kufuor appointed him to the Supreme Court on 21 May 2003 and he retired in March 2004. He was a fellow of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences. His son Ave Kludze is a NASA engineer.
