About Anthony Forson
Anthony Forson is a lawyer and diplomat who was the first Attorney-General of the Fourth Republic, from March to October 1993, and then Ghana's High Commissioner to India.
He was called to the Ghana bar in 1964. In the 1992 election he contested the Takoradi seat for the National Convention Party, the partner of Jerry Rawlings's NDC, and lost. He was appointed Attorney-General and Minister for Justice on 1 March 1993 and resigned on 30 October 1993, amid public criticism of his performance; Obed Asamoah succeeded him.
From 1994 to 1997 he was High Commissioner to India, also accredited to Sri Lanka, and while there took an LLM at the University of Delhi, winning a gold medal for comparative jurisprudence. He now chairs the law firm Forson and Co. His son, Anthony Forson Jr., has been president of the Ghana Bar Association.
